My mum enjoys going Silver Circle

For Tan Kim Hong's family, they could not be happier at where their mother is now. Her daughter, Raine Huang, shared that her 59-year-old mother was previously at the rehabilitation centre at a hospital for one month but decided she needed a change. After searching through the internet, Huang found the Silver Circle (Punggol South).

"This place suits my mother better. Besides using similar physiotherapy methods as the hospital, they also try out different things like stretching and walking done according to my mother's progress," said Huang. She explained that in March, Mdm Tan suffered a stroke that affected not only her right side of her body but also her speech. At the time, she was bedridden and the doctor was not optimistic about her recovery and said she might be wheelchair-bound for life. However, that did not stop her family from having hope.

With the help of Silver Circle's therapy assistants and the family maid, who accompanies her at all times at the centre, the grandmother of three is starting to walk and stand. Though her speech is impeded but remains aware, she enjoys playing cards, one of the many activities that are available at the centre, and uses the gym. Said Huang, "She is more active here than at home. They take care of her social as well as mental aspects. We are very happy with her progress. We don't expect 100% recovery, however, if she can be a little indepedent, we are pleased." Tan, who is at the centre three times a week, also gets a visit from a physiotherapist once a week, who shares proper techniques in caregiving with the maid and injects her with more confidence.

As Tan continues to improve each month, Huang said that even if her mother can walk indepedently one day, she would still like her to stay at Silver Circle. "She has the company of others and they can chat with her. This is all very good for my mother." For Tan's family, they now see a future of possibilities.
